Amir- Adopted by Sam
“Amir came into Hounds First as a stray with very little history known. I instantly fell in love with his picture, and was fortunate to be able to foster him. He looked very timid and scared in kennels when I went to meet him, but had been well looked after there. Amir is typical of his breed in terms of looks, and I was astonished when cat testing showed a total indifference on his part to my cats! Adoption soon followed.
Amir is the perfect dog within the home, being quiet, gentile and very well behaved….you hardly know he’s there, and he mostly reclines regally on the sofas, or potters about keeping me company. We soon discovered that outside the house, Amir has extreme levels of anxiety and displays fear agression with all other dogs he encounters. We are working with Hounds First to support Amir with his anxiety using specific training techniques. Progress is slow but steady, and most set backs are caused by other people allowing their dog to run up to him, which is Amirs worst nightmare. He wears a muzzle outdoors, which he doesn’t mind at all, and we are fortunate to live in a location that makes offlead zoomies possible in a controlled space. Amir lives successfully with my 2 female lurchers, so has company of his own kind. He shows no aggression or fear in their company which is encouraging for his ongoing rehabilitation.
Amir has taught me so much about dogs and their behaviour, and although it can be challenging and hard work at times, it is also immensely rewarding and i adore him. We have a very special bond.”
