Katie is an elderly female greyhound of around 13 years of age who came into our care in February 2017. She was unwanted by her owners who stated that they got her off the free ads a couple of years ago and no longer want her as she was stealing food. On arrival in rescue we discovered she had been neglected. She had not been walked, she did not have her own collar and lead, her nails were overgrown and curled right round, she was in pain and covered in urine stains. Her her teeth are also in bad condition – crumbling away. She also has multiple mammary tumours. Her reflexes aren’t as good as they are in younger dogs, she is losing her sight too.
Katie was driven straight to the vet and is on antibiotics and painkillers. She is currently under assessment by the vet and now feeling more comfortable and thriving with the comforts of the foster home. The vet feels it would further stress her to operate on the tumours. She will have a dental and her nails clipped and be made as comfortable as we can. She will stay with her fosterer as a long term foster dog. She will, of course, get all the love, treatment and care she needs.
