River

River

  • River is a female rough coated Bedlington lurcher of around 15 months old. She stands approximately 25 inches to the shoulder.
  • She can be timid at first but once she gets to know you she loves nothing more than a game of fetch or a cuddle on the sofa.
  • She is an affectionate dog and loves to rest her head on your lap or shoulder.
  • River walks beautifully on the lead and does not pull.  She can be wary when she comes across other dogs and may bark and sometimes growl initially but with calm introductions is fine. This should improve as she begins to feel more secure but needs a confident adopter who is not worried by this and can help her to make positive associations.
  • Out on walks her confidence benefits greatly from the company of at least one other dog. We feel that River needs a home with a confident playful dog.
  • She loves to play typical lurcher games of chase and bitey face with her foster brother and sisters.
  • River has not lived with children before coming into foster but now lives with children of 12 and 15.  She took a little longer to get used to the children compared to the adults and definitely prefers adult company.  However, she is very gentle and we feel that she could be homed with calm dog savvy children of at least 10 years old.
  • River is fully house trained and will ask to go out.
  • River can currently be left for around two hours. She can get worried if she is left for any longer and this may cause her to have the odd accident or find something to chew. She will need someone around most of the time to build up her confidence while she gradually learns to be left for longer periods.
  • River bonds quickly with her humans after her initial wariness and would like her adopters to let her sleep in their room at night.
  • River shows a desire to chase small furries and cats.  We would not home her with a cat as she reacts to cats that stand their ground as well as those that run.
  • She will need fences of at least 5 (or ideally 6) foot.
  • River is getting used to car travel and after initially preferring the back seat she now happily jumps into the boot and will settle. However, she does tend to sometimes get car sick on journeys over 30 minutes.
  • She is quick to learn and already knows sit and will enthusiastically give you her paw on command.  Her recall in a secure field without distractions is very good – it has not been tested further.
  • River has an over shot jaw but this does not cause her any issues.
  • River is in foster in Toddington, Bedfordshire.
