Drew is a 16 week old male lurcher puppy (greyhound cross). He currently stands at 19 inches to the shoulder but is likely to be large size when full grown.
At home Drew is a happy bouncy boisterous typical puppy. He is quick to learn new things and is very attentive and loving. Like most puppies he likes to climb on you, much like a mountain goat, and chew your face.
Before coming to rescue Drew had not been out much – he is now slowly gaining confidence out and about but can still anxious when coming across strange dogs.
He loves to play with toys and snuggle up to the other dogs in the home now he has got to know them.
Drew needs an owner that he realises he needs to take things at his own pace to allow him to grow in confidence and grow into a steady adult.
Drew is not great in the car – he can get quite car sick.
His recall is coming along nicely and he walks nicely on the lead.
Drew could live with a confident cat with an owner who knows how to train dogs and cats to live together.
His housetraining is a work in progress – he will still have accidents indoors.
Drew can be a little shy of new people – he can be a little hand shy so needs an owner who can understand and work on this.
He knows a few commands already including sit, leave, come, touch and how to check in during walks.
Drew sleeps in his crate all night and can be left for 2 hours at a time in the day.
He is going to be a large and quite bouncy dog so we would recommend children over the age of 10 who know how to behave around puppies and teenage dogs.
Drew shows no prey drive at the moment but its early days and he has only just really started going out properly.
As with all puppy adoptions and especially important with Drew we ask that his adopters commit to attending puppy classes. In the case of Drew these will need to be selected in consultation with Hounds First to ensure its the right kind of environment for him to gain in confidence.
